Bless up Reggae JAHMers, @JustinParke here once again with a collection of the most JAHMIN Posts Of The Week in the ReggaeJAHM Community.
WHAT A GWAAN?
@Sreypov and I are finally legally married here in Suriname, and we are so isolated that we didn't even know we missed Suriname's Independence Day until I read @rarej's post. I heard a large amount of fireworks, but none of our local friends had mentioned anything, so I assumed some locals were just playing with fireworks.
This JAHMIN POSTS OF THE WEEK curation from the ReggaeJAHM Community has Christmas vibes, #APART posts, #DashoutSunday posts, and more. Big up all of you Reggae JAHMers all around the world, and keep the positive vibes flowing into December.
You don't need to be in the Caribbean or from it to post in our community. From Ital food to reggae music, Caribbean news and much more is welocme in our community. To learn more about our tags/cultural initiatives, see the following posts: Dashout Sunday, APART, and RJNAS.
Stay positive ReggaeJAHMers, and give thanks for the beauty of life.
WHAT'S JAHMIN' THIS WEEK?
Every week, I select a 5% beneficiary of this post, and this week's winner is @rarej for reminding me I missed Suriname's Independence Day.
🎆 National Holiday In Suriname ✨
Srefidensi in Suriname 🌱 Independence Day
With COVID-19 still preventing some freedoms of movement, Suriname turned 45 years old, and although I didn't miss Suriname turning 44, our isolation and COVID-19's restrictions on social settings caused us to completely miss this holiday. In this post you'll find a brief history of Suriname's independence and a little bit of what's going on in @rarej's life.
🚶♀️ Walk It Out 🚶♀️
Burning Spear - "Walk" 💪 #APART {A Picture And Reggae Tune}
The @KidSisters love the #APART initiative by ReggaeJAHM co-founder @dmilliz, but they are non-native English speakers, and patois in music is very hard for them to decipher. Because of this, they chose Burning Spear's "Walk," an easy to understand song, but it doesn't make any less powerful. These kids are no strangers to walking the streets of Paramaribo, especially because Suriname's public transportation is too expensive and inefficient, no share taxis like Jamaica.
🔮 Da Future, Seen!
New Challenges Ahead 🌞 I Can See Clearly Now || APART
"Have you ever won an election?" Well, our fellow JAHMer @tanjakolader has, so congratulations sistren, live it up!! She's had some new experiences this year indeed, and beginning her Hive journey was one of these experiences. 2020 has certainly been a year of global trials and tribulations, and it's good to see someone succeeding despite the circumstances.
👨🍳 Cocinando en Colombia
#DashOutSunday initiative - A special day (Every day)
Speaking of global trials and tribulations, @josevas217 is someone dealing with a new life in a new country due to a range of difficult circumstances going on in Venezuela. Usually he's cooking something up at home, but he and his wife treated themselves to a meal out on the town. It's good to see this couple out on the town and smiling, a brief escape from the worries that plague many of us around the world.
📯 Caribbean Christmas 🎄
Jamaican Christmas Parade
I myself have been witness to random public performances in Jamaica, and it looks like @luca1777 was witness to this band performance in pre-corona times, although I don't know how long ago it was. It was a cool sight to see, as most of what I've witnessed in Jamaica have been Kumina and Rastafari-related events. Jamaicans know how to play wind instruments, and this crew is no exception.
🦘 G'Day, Reggae Down Under Anyone?
enjoying some irie music from australia ..
Australia is definitely not even in the top 10 when I think of countries producing high-quality reggae music. Reggae music is international though, so no matter how big or small, it is ever-present around the world. In this post @mariluna highlights Fyah Walk, a band that has a very authentic sound I must say. Good to know they are keeping good vibes down under.
