Observing the dancehall scene the last few weeks it seems the hardcore genre has a new top don of the moment. While there are a lot of young artistes doing their thing, something about the way Skeng has been approaching his marketing is on point. Each major city/country’s he lands in for a tour, he creates a song/ anthem to represent it. Here is his latest single titled “London”.

Before this track he released one called “Canada”. It it’s good to see the next generation of artistes touring since many of them got their hits during the depths of the pandemic. One thing is for sure, the fans in yard & abroad are really taking to his music. Here is the video for his song called “Canada”.

The only thing that concerns me about Skeng is his promotion of the Molly lifestyle in Jamaica. Many wonder if he is a user of the party drug as he mentions it in songs. But the the truth is the party drug has infiltrated the scene in Jamaica and even in schools. In this article by the Jamaica Gleaner, police officials raised concerns about drug use at schools and the clever ways they are brining them in. They also talk about the trend of “Pill Parties” using Molly growing on the island. Here is a performance snippet by Skeng and Govana in which many fans wondered if he was on the pill. Well, what would you expect if you sing about it?

What I like about Skeng is he has a unique voice. It stands out from the pack and fits the young-trapper persona well. He also makes some very catchy songs. By summer, I see him being hailed the new Don of Dancehall but if he is really on those pills, it will be his downfall.

Here is the song I really think captured his fan base. It is a collab with incarcerated Tommy Lee Sparta called “Protocol”. The truth is, not everyone one wants “good, positive music”. Some want the hardcore reality of the streets.

His voice popped up indeed and is unique from what I know in this genre of music.

I hope he isn't using drugs though, especially if it's chemical based, although why would he sing about it?

Unfortunately, I've also seen this pill pop up or mentioned in mainstream movies or television series, as if it's the most normal thing in the world.
