For Week 152 of the AfriTunes Weekly Contest, I will be singing a rendition of the song "You Are the Reason" by Mairo Ese.
This song has been one of my favorites since my college days. I fell in love with it because of a friend from my department who was so attached to the song. We became close, and I noticed that his ringtone and almost everything related to him revolved around this very song. Through him, I learned how to play it on the keyboard around 2018/2019, though at the time, I didn’t really understand the instrument well. He used this song to teach me how to play, but it was quite difficult for me to grasp. I found the keyboard complicated at first, but with continuous practice, I gradually improved. It wasn’t easy, but over time, I finally got the hang of it, by God;s grace and in the process, I grew to love the song even more.
As I continued listening, I realized that this song “You Are the Reason” carries deep, meaningful, and powerful words of worship. It is a song of acknowledgment, declaring that Jesus is the reason for my existence. Everything I have today is because He approved it, on my own, I could achieve nothing. absolutely nothing
Many times in life, we tend to forget the things God has done for us. We often focus on the big things we desire, overlooking the fact that life itself is a great reason to be thankful. If not for God’s mercy, where would we be? That is why we are expected to give thanks to Him in all circumstances and at all times.
