After my friends and I had dinner at a nearby restaurant, we went to see the illumination at Hibiya. It’s located in the Tokyo Midtown Hibiya grounds, just before going in to the big mall.
The illumination is called Hibiya Magic Time Illumination but I don’t know why it’s called that. Probably they wanted to make people think that this place is something magical? I’m not really so sure. If you look at that way, there’s indeed something magical about the lights. The vibe, maybe yes..?
The way they lit up the trees and how the lights dance along with the music that’s being played on the background seems magical for me. I’ve seen many couples enjoying the illumination, as if they’re the only ones in the area. I would be too conscious though if my boyfriend and I were having our time together in a place like this.
You might be wondering why but in Japan it seems like illuminations like this are great for couple dates. That’s why there were lots of them last night. I was with my friends and we’re just walking around, and no we didn’t judge the couples. 😂
I thought the trees were leaf-less because it’s already winter but some still have yellow leaves in them. Good thing they didn’t smell bad.
Some were bald trees already. Signs of winter..?
In front of Tokyo Midtown Hibiya were different kinds of Christmas trees.
And as we look closely we discovered some ornaments were from the movie Moana 2!
Moana 2 was just released early this month in the theaters here in Japan, and still showing til now. I’m pretty sure some of the people here in the illumination watched the movie inside the theater in Tokyo Midtown Hibiya then came here to visit the Moana-themed illumination.
I haven’t watched the movie so I’m not sure myself if you can say this is really a movie themed illumination. 😅
While all the people were busy in the Christmas trees area, one part was a little bit empty. I guess this area isn’t part of the illumination because I didn’t notice the lights dancing along with the background music.
This illumination started last month and will end on the 25th, so we were just in time to see it! Whew!
It’s free for the public to enjoy but there weren’t really lots of places to sit and just relax around here. You could stop by before going inside Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, finding refuge from the cold winter weather. Good strategy from the mall to bring in customers.
That’s all from me, reporting last night’s happenings at Hibiya. 😆
We had a decent amount of walking at night time, and even in the afternoon I was doing some errands. Nice step count I think since I’ve been so busy last work week.
How are the illuminations in your area?
Thanks for reading!
See you around! じゃあ、またね!
With love,
