There is usually a lot of time going into my selection process, when it comes to choosing the right picture for my posts. This goes for a lot of moments when I need to make a choice, to be honest, and that's because of my perfectionism traits. I'm trying to curb that side of me, because there could be beauty in the imperfect.
As was the case again today, when I was taking pictures of the Heliconia psittacorum (known as Pokai tongo [parrots beak] in Suriname). I wanted to take pictures of this perennial plant for a while now and decided it had to happen today, otherwise I would postpone again.
The reason being, that I knew that the Pokai tongo probably had some wear and tear growing out in the open - it's actually growing between some construction waste - and that tormented my perfectionistic mind. I want to post quality you see in galleries or at the very least photos sold as decorative art in homes.
But I know that I need to curb this behavior, because it's all in my head and this shouldn't deter me from being active. So I waited until the rain stopped - the rain came and went during the day - took out my phone and snapped some photos. I won't get into the process of taking the pictures though, during which I also critiqued myself profoundly. Let's focus on me being able to post a picture with its "imperfections".
And here's Jahmiel's fitting song Believe In Yoursel, where he sings about the power of believing in yourself and not listening to disbelievers. Focus on your goals, because there will be better days. Find the strength in you (in me) and keep on working towards a better you (me)
Well that was me trying to overcome some debilitating thought processes. How about you? Are you also trying to overcome something that's hindering your progress? Let me know in the comments below or better yet write an APART (A Picture & Reggae Tune) post 🤓.
