There is nothing like a good Dancehall compilation and I think I have found one of the best out there with rising artistes and producers in the mix. The RSVP Dancehall compilation vol 1 was executive produced by 21 Hapilos who is one of the largest distributors of Reggae/Dancehall music in the world. One may ask, why let anyone distribute your songs when you can do it yourself using platforms like CD Baby and Distrokid. Well I asked a producer and this is what he told me.
"It has to do with busyness, laziness and familiarity."
But the another truth is, that the 21 Hapilos logo on album art also is a brand that many unconsciously look for. In other words, it is better to have it than not to.
On with the music

Here are three of the songs on the compilation that caught my attention ⚠️
Streets - Squash & Vybz Kartel
This song reminded me of why Kartel is the greatest in Dancehall. I actually think he is a greater lyricist than the late 2pac. Kartel spits the reality of the streets poetically, you can literally visualize a movie as he sings how the streets nuh love nobody.
Squash also goes hard on this one but it seems he is literally doing a biography, the 5-0 might use this one as evidence in court.
Chosen - Rytikal
Rytical is one of the fastest rising stars in Dancehall and in this song I like the melody and the message. I can see why it was chosen for the compilation. It’s not the everyday trap Dancehall but a pouring out of raw emotions. Something that Dancehall needs more of. Take a listen below.
Freedom - Yaksta & 10Tik
Yet another song with a powerful message and two rising Dancehall dons. The Chorus line is simple but pontent. “All I have is my dreams and all I need is my freedom ( freedom)”. I think anyone can relate to that. The video also has visuals that really get the point across as a man can be seen in chains walking the streets of Kingston. And the Riddim just carries the message beautifully. There are many other great songs on the compilation and I have to commend whoever hands on put it together. Enjoy!
