Masicka recently dropped his new album titled 438 along with a music video for one of the songs on it titled Suicide Note. The album was released on December 3rd and is already being toted as the Dancehall album of the year by industry insiders as well as fans worldwide.

Here is the video for the single titled "suicide note" off the 438 album

“Look eena mi life and you will find hope. Ever sit down yet and write a suicide note? Wid a matic full a nothing funny, do nuh find joke. This land is like a quicksand and me couldn’t find rope, Fvk di music, mek we sell some weed or we go buy coke. Life ruff but man a try cope, Aye mama dry throat and hungry belly used to kill we but man have high hope. Buss di gage dem yes man a touch di stage and sing some high notes.

Dancehall Album of the year? I strongly agree. While the album has some of the usual Dancehall formulas such as "Bad Man" tunes and sexually explicit lyrics, it has a balance with songs that express emotions of struggle, overcoming them and what comes with it. He even does some story telling with a track called Story. The album features Popcaan, Steflon Don, Sean Paul and Dexta Daps as well as a wide range of producers.

My Top picks On the Album

There are so many good songs on this album it is hard to pick a favorite but I shall showcase 4 tracks that you should give a good listen to.

Toxic World

Toxic World which talks about the scarcity of genuine people and how luckily he has his herbs is one of those dancehall songs that are filled with emotions from the heart that paint a harsh reality. These are the type of songs that Masicka does best I believe.

Pain featuring Popcaan

Another one of those songs with emotions is Pain, "Mi can tell you pain ina every language" is the main phrase in this one and how effective it is. Popcaan being on the track sharing his struggle along side Masicka brings accross the message in a very impactful way as they have both overcame struggles and serious pain to be top of the Dancehall kingdom.

King

King is a combination of Badness balanced with empowerment. A very potent formula in Dancehall. "Every black man a king", the main lyrics of the chorus, while the verses dive into ego and reality in a hardcore Dancehall trap style. The track ends with Masicka's grandmother saying prayers and affirmations for her grandson.

Heart Cry

Heart cry is a cry from the soul without the tears, "True dem never see nuh tears ina mi eyes but mi heart cry, whole heep a stumble man stumble in the jungle mi nah lie....". Again, Masicka's strong point, Dancheall filled with real emotional lyrics.

Another track that was a treat was Story which is like a shotta movie in lyrical form. You have to listen closely to this one to catch the twist and turns in the plot. It is not every day we hear Dancehall artiste doing such obvious story telling and it gives more creative variety to the album. If you are a true Dancehall fan, you will no doubt enjoy the 438 album. have you listened to the album? What is your favorite track?

I like anything that features popcaan, so I listened to this first. It is really nice, sad struggles but now they are happy. I'm sleepy, I will listen to the rest and comment again when I wake up hahahahaha.

Indeed strong lyrics, especially Suicide Note, which has a deeper message that you don't often find in a song. I often listen to the music in this community while busy doing something else but I really had to stop and listen closely to these tracks and even watched the videoclip of Suicide Note.
