Home for the Holidays: Christmas in Full Swing

in Hive Learners7 hours ago

Preparing for this festive season came with lots of excitement for me and my family, especially with my boys buzzing around and craving festive meals and lots of catching up in our hometown.

The festive week is officially here, and for someone who is celebrating Christmas, it's been going so well with me. Since I didn't plan on celebrating the season this year in Lagos City, where we reside, but in our hometown, I had to plan for early travel for me and my kids. I understand that traveling late might attract extra transportation fare and stress on the road, but yet, I couldn't escape all of that still, but the most important thing is that we are now at our hometown celebrating the season already.

In my home, we don't wait until 25th December before we start celebrating the moment; everything is already put in place, like drinks, festive food of all kinds, and unique music carefully selected for the season. This time, my family made a food menu that we are following diligently, hehehe, all for the season, although most of them, for a start, are our native delicacies carefully prepared with firewood, which many people feel that food prepared with firewood tastes better, lolz, but then does it? Yet to spot the difference, though. I mentioned this in my post yesterday!

One of the fun parts of this celebration is the access to local drinks here, popularly known as palm wine. A lot of people crave this drink; it's natural and awesome. We hardly get it in the city where we reside, and when we even see it, it's mostly adulterated, so in Lagos City, I don't bother myself searching for palm wine, but now in my hometown, we get it so fresh, just after the palm tappers are out from the bush with the palm wine..

We are yet to get bush meat, which we usually use for the combo, palm wine vs. bush meat, always a great combo for an evening seat out for some fun discussion together as a family. Hopefully, we will get that soon, but for now, my family and I have been catching up still with the available merriment.

I planned on gifting some of the villagers, mostly women, some ingredients for making Christmas stew. Just something nice to put smiles on their faces this season, especially the less privileged ones. So I got these items in Lagos before coming home, had them packaged in different nylon, and dispatched them yesterday morning. I love the smiles on their faces as they received the little gift, and I love the loads of prayers on my head as well; it's a win-win for all. Indeed, the festive week already going on well, and I am loving the whole experience so far.

Some of my co-wives within our clan came around yesterday evening, and we had fun together, talking about life and other women's matters. We also talked at length about Christmas dishes and upcoming events this season. 🥳

With so many butterflies in my belly right now, I feel like Christmas should be a monthly event even, hahaha.

Overall, it's been a good start to the season for me, my family, and my friends over here. Nothing much has happened yet; there are still many events lined up to experience over here in my hometown, and I hope to witness most of them.

For some people who don't celebrate Christmas for one or two reasons, I hope you seize this wonderful holiday opportunity to relax, recharge, and maybe indulge in any of your personal hobbies or passions and make nice memories still.

This is my response to the Hive Learners community contest on the topic titled Compliments of the Season.

Wishing everyone a relaxing and memorable holiday experience 🥳🎄.
