It has been a minute since I have done a #DashOutsunday post, but I think this one here is worthy of a dash. Not only to show what we had but hopefully recoup some of the money LOL. These days when going out with the family, I have made it my duty to not order a dish for myself as I know these kids and they will order big and eat small. And my job is to make sure nothing is left on these plates.
South West Paradise café
While strolling along the streets of Ashikaga city, we saw a very unusual looking building so we glimpsed the menu and realized it was a Mexican café. Me personally, I would rather eat Mexican food from a Mexican and even then it is not one of my favorites. But it was something out of the ordinary and worth trying.
Someone Loves Xmas
At the entrance to the café they had this showcase with dozens of Santas. Yaay for bring the xmas vibes as my tree isn't even up yet. Do you think I should even bother?
The café did its best to stick with the Mexican theme, fake cactus plants, traditional ornaments, the paintings on the walls and more. The most impressive to me was the painting on the wall outside.
The food took forever to reach our tables it would seem, but I think the kids in our group going crazy made it seem even longer. Luckily we were one of two groups in the café. Here are some the crazy faces we had to deal with while they shouted "why is it taking so long" and romped like they were at a park in Mexico. Is that the middle finger he is showing us?
And now for the main event
The salad came first (of course )and it was good. It had something in it we could not recognize ( the pink looking thing). It was crunchy like an apple but tasted like a kind of yam. We didn't have a chance to ask the staff as we were occupied trying to get the kids to chill.
The ladies ordered soft shell chicken tacos which looked really good. More veggies and meat than shells though. I like how they arranged everything, quite pleasing on the eyes. Seeing this makes me want to make a batch for xmas dinner but with jerk chicken.
My twins had pancakes and ice-cream, yup pancakes for lunch. They refused to have anything else. Interestingly they both decided after getting halfway through that it wasn't the best pancake and it tasted funny. So the toddler and I had dessert from their leftovers.
The ladies insisted I took a photo of them and complained how i did it so quick but spent so much time on the food hehehehe.
And here is what me and my youngest shared. To this day I cannot understand why anyone would put corn on a pizza. It is one of the things I hate about Japan besides insane taxes and work on xmas day.
All in all it was a great experience and everyone had a good time. Now we had the energy to explore this city. Yup, that is my kid's stroller by the door to the right. Don't leave home without it.
Do you like Mexican food? What is your favorite dish?
