Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about the importance of standing up for something in our lives!
Take a Stand
"If you don't stand for something, then you stand for nothing" Jordan Peterson.
I am always on the lookout for an ear worm like this. Sometimes people say really fascinating and wonderful things. Jordan Peterson certainly has many of his own things that he says that make a lasting impression. The above quote is definitely one of them that has left a mark on me.
I tend to listen to his podcast a lot, among many others. I think one of the things that I really like about Jordan Peterson is that he is one to focus on how men can improve themselves. There is so much shit and hate directed towards men in the society we live in today that it's pretty wild that people are allowing that to happen. I guess when there is massive money and media behind demonization of men, it is allowed to continue even though it's incredibly damaging.
I think the quote is incredibly powerful in that it means you need to take a stand somewhere. Where you take that stand in the various parts of your life is up to you. There are lots of examples of that type of stand in recent memory. The people who refused to be injected with an experimental gene therapy product took a stance. As more and more information comes out, they are affirmed in their choice was the right one. Plenty of people chose the opposite and some are dealing with it in a constructive way so they don't get duped again, while many others are doubling down because they don't want to admit or are too scared to admit they were tricked.
This is an important thing in the world we live in today, figuring out where we take a stand. There are so many challenges and issues in the world we live in today that it's easy to get overwhelmed. When we take a stand though, for topics and concepts that we determine important for ourselves, then we are able to take power back into our own hands. There is increasingly more and more times where power is trying to be siphoned away because it then shifts the power balance into the wrong hands. That's a dangerous thing to experience, but sadly it is all too common in human history.
When we make sure that we stand for something, then we are able to have confidence in ourselves and our beliefs. When we don't know what we stand for, that is certainly a common thing for some parts of life but for the core ones we need to make sure that we know what we stand for. Having firm beliefs in the time we are living in is so important. There are many beliefs that need to be flexible but there are also ones that we need to make sure that we have ingrained in us in a way that it will take a lot to challenge them. When we can do that, we can then build on that in our lives and be able to make other changes so that we can make positive changes as much as we can.
I was thinking that I've got a few things that I've stood for and have been really happy with the results. There are some others that I would like to figure out how to better incorporate into my life, but for the time being it's good that I've at least got what I do right now.
Another similar quote that I saw a few months ago was "Take a stand now, because it's better you than your grandkids. If you don't take a stand, you will know freedoms that your grandkids never will." and that really resonated with me on this specific topic of knowing where to take a stand!
What about you, do you think this is an important topic to think about? Let me know in the comments!
